Injured Cancellara Hopeful About Tour Suisse
Great news for Fabian Cancellara fans who have been worried over his latest injury reports. The star Swiss rider is pretty confident to recover from his present injuries and come up with a stunning performance at the esteemed tour Suisse.
The 1st half of 2014 was quite a prosperous one for the leading Trek Factory rider. He bagged a record-equalling 3rd win at Ronde van Vlaanderen, 2nd position at Milan-San Romeo & 3rd status at Paris-Roubaix. Post a brief break, the Swiss rider got back to Bayern Rundfahrt with the hope of some solid practice before his eminent home race Tour Suisse.
However, Fabian met up with a high-pace crash during his training sessions and ended up with bruises, bumps and injury on skin. Fortunately, the rider was able to avoid any more severe injury.
“I was three-four metres behind & I strived to get to 55kph. But maybe I put too much of stress on one pedal which landed me on the ground at great speed”, said Cancellara while speaking about his recent accident. It lost some days of practice as well,
“I was down with immense pain; I could not ride the bike & slept badly.”
The most painful part was that the injured rider had to go cycling for 55 km till his home post the bad crash. He was afraid that the accident would ruin his chances to come up with a stellar performance at his home race which is obviously very close to his heart. However, he is aware that the crash could have led to worse results and he is little relaxed with the thought that he did not have to end up in a hospital.
“I am hopeful to get better by the start of Tour Suisse…this is my goal now…..I would need to race really smart”, the star rider looked determined.

Contador tops latest UCI rankings
Spanish rider Alberto Contador of team Tinkoff-Saxo has smashed his way to the top of the latest rankings of World Tour, as published by the UCI this past week after the conclusion of the Volta a Catalunya and the Ghent-Wevelgem.
The Spaniard finished in second place behind Joaquim Rodriguez at the Volta a Catalunya and with the points he amassed from winning the Tirreno-Adriatico, the former Tour de France champion has opened up a comfortable points lead at the top of the table as well.
Peter Sagan occupies second place in the latest rankings behind Contador, having secured top position in the podium at the E3 Harelbeke last week apart from finishing third overall in the Ghent-Wevelgem.
But the latest rankings don’t make good reading for British riders with top British rider Geraint Thomas sitting in 15th place after he managed to finish a distant third at the E3 Harelbeke. Ben Swift finds himself just a few points and a couple of places behind the Welshman on 17th aided by his tremendous performance in the Milan-San Remo where he finished in third position.
Thomas’s team mate at Team Sky and fellow British rider Chris Froome made his way into the rankings for the first time this season after a strong showing at the Volta a Catalunya where he finished in sixth position. He finds himself at 33rd in the latest rankings published by UCI.
Spain has also reached the top position among the countries ahead of Australia in second and France in third with Great Britain in fifth position in the latest rankings.
Ag2r is now the top ranked team in the rankings closely followed by Movistar and Tinkoff-Saxo. Team Sky, the leader for the 2013 season and winner overall is currently lying in fifth position after the publication of the latest rankings.
